HR Technology Strategy: It's important for organizations to have a clearly defined approach to HR Technology.
An "ERP" strategy consists of a single software suite designed to manage all aspects of HR functions/processes. ERP solutions promote better process integration/alignment, less ongoing maintenance/complexity and cost, but sometimes at the expense of some flexibility.
A "Best of Breed" strategy focuses on excelling in each HR function/process by using specialized software from multiple vendors. Best of Breed offers deeper functionality in each HR work stream, but usually requires more complex platform management, greater integration challenges between systems, and often comes with a higher cost.
HR Platform Documentation: Ideally, the HRIS system should be positioned as the system-of-record for ALL THINGS relating to both EMPLOYEE and ORGANIZATIONAL data. Establishing visual Documentation of the HR Platform helps all stakeholders (both inside and outside HR) understand the overall technology landscape.
Data Management & Controls: Good Data Management is rooted in having defined processes and data definitions. Lacking these, data will always be at a greater risk for reduced accuracy and security. The illustrations below serves as a framework for both an approach and structure for documenting data management controls.
